Who dries and stores the towels?

Give the towel handover three named jobs: start the label-directed drying stage, check its status, and return it to storage when ready.

Write the three jobs on whatever your household already reads: the fridge list, a shared phone note, a card taped inside the grooming cupboard.

Add a status word next to each towel in use: drying, dry, needs washing. If no status is recorded, ask the person who last handled it before deciding the next job.

If you don’t know the fibre or construction of a towel, check the sewn-in label or the maker’s care page before you pick a drying or cleaning method. When the model isn’t identified, ask the manufacturer directly rather than guessing at heat or detergent.

Agree on a drying place

Pick one drying location per towel type and say it out loud, so nobody has to hunt.

Compare the drying arrangement in the care instructions with the space you can actually use, then write the chosen location beside the assigned name.

Keep the drying spot away from where the animal sleeps or eats, and away from the stack of clean towels. If your towel carries maker care directions about heat sources, radiators or tumble drying, follow those directions for that specific towel; treat any performance wording on the packaging as the maker’s claim, not a tested result.

Give each towel state a place. Awaiting care; Drying as instructed; Dry and stored. Conceptual diagram without measured quantities.

Put the next clean towel where it belongs

Clean towels go in one closed, labelled place, and only fully dry towels enter it.

Name the container: a lidded box, a single shelf, a drawer. Agree whether the checker also puts it away or hands that job to someone else. Record the handover so both people can see who is responsible.

Set out one clean towel at the grooming spot each time you remove a used one, so the next wash starts with a towel already waiting.
